Defender 90 for overland duties

My mate once said to me that my 90 would never have the space for overland trips of any scale. I have seen that some folks do use them so immediately jumped to the defence of my 90 (why not eh!!). So having made my first trip to Wales (appreciate not a major trip), fully kitted out, with tent etc, it was on the tight side. I was wondering therefore if any of you fellow landytowner type folks have any solutions, ideas, piccies, views etc.

I have a roofrack and some storage space inside (would take picture of inside but currently pelting it down) but all home made stuff. Ok over to anyone with a view, thanks in advance.

Most folks who overland with a 90 seem to have a roof tent which saves space inside and has useful storage inside for sleeping bags and such like.

You'll probably find that careful selection of what you really need is key to success. We manage to fill a 110 with just the two of us and that's with a trailer tent too !!! Mostly though it's a case of "we' ve got the space, so might as well take it"

Denty is a chap to ask, he has been overland to Morroco several times and lived out of his 90.

Of course you can. They did it in S1's years ago, all over the world............

I've been camping in my 88inch. OK, not an overland trip, but just for a week.....it wasn't too bad.

I do tend to think that the more space you have, the more you take just because you can. I have done plenty of longer trips (6 weeks, take it all...no buying anything) in a 110 and with 2 kids as well.

There was a feature in one of the mags recently about a 90 that had been equipped for expeditions. Anyone remember which mag or when it was?

Mmm. but its always sunny where you are so its a bikini, bbq and a tinny....or am I generalising !!!

Joking aside - I take on your point re taking too much just in case. I guess I was just looking for any sexy kit to be a bit more organised in the back as it was pillows, coats, etc all over the place at present

Yes....you are over-generalising   , although we do try to plan trips in the drier months, but if you've heard the news from Aus recently, our drier areas can become very soggy very quickly, which can mean being stuck in places for days (or weeks)

Can you make, or have made, boxes to stow your gear in the back? Makes things neater.....although only some of it.

I'll do a thread later on how the 100 was set up.
